Name: JoAnn LS
Hometown: Born in Des Moines, grew up in Iowa City!
Years of experience: 17
How I found HABA: I was the manager/lead educator at my previous salon, and was ready to take on a new challenge and expand my own education. I heard that HABA was happening, and came to the Grand opening party and laid on the charm!
My ideal hair aesthetic: To me, hair dressing is all about easy, almost effortless-looking hair that grows out as gracefully as possible no matter how wild or subdued it is. I'm all about allowing people to shine and express their personal style and what makes them feel unique, special, and confident. Working with natural texture instead of treating it like an enemy.
What I bring to the salon floor: Knowledge, passion, enthusiasm, and a relaxed sense of fun.
My golden rule of beauty is: Own what makes you unique and awesome. Accentuate the positive and work with what you've got, and you can't go wrong. Treating fashion as armor and a way to bring out the best in who you are can be incredibly empowering. Be genuine.
My favorite quality in a HABA client: Kind, unpretentious, trusting, and open minded. Our clients are fun, thoughtful and caring.
Main style inspirations: Hair from the 20's and 60's, My hair heroes such as Julien D'ys, Laurent Philippon, Hester Wernert-Rijn, James Pecis, Jimmy Paul, Howard McLaren, Odile Gilbert, Angelo Seminara, etc. A lot of modern hairdressers. Anyone who bends or breaks the rules and/or is their own person.
Favorite things to do after HABA closes: Go to concerts, hang with friends and family, make art, be a night owl, travel
Favorite film: Anything John Waters made, anything by Jean-Pierre Jeunet
My secret trade (un-hair related): I paint, sew, make jewelry. I love any form of creativity, and making anything with my hands.
Fictional character you most relate to: Jerri Blank and George Michael from Arrested Development
